The Heart of Patterns
Once again, we were studying patterns in our Art class. I am amazed at how well my students grasped the concepts of design! Since each project that we have completed has some way dealt with patterns, my artists are quick to use the terms in their descriptions of the artwork......especially since a vast majority of them are six years old and under. This week, we created a black and white pattern on six different 4 x 4 squares of paper and then, using colored tissue paper, we cut out shapes to paste over the patterned squares. The pattern shown through the shapes, creating a depth to the piece. Next, we pasted the squares on a sheet of paper, making the separate pieces of this art, one artwork! This was so much fun and such a neat experience for the students!

PATTERNS EVERYWHERE!!
My students have been studying patterns in our Art Class this entire school year. Earlier in this year, my young artists created masks, based on informative of primitive cultures. Studying the patterns found on ocean fish, we manipulated our clay into amazing fish sculptures. Vibrate colors and radiating patterns filled our classroom! We have been currently discussing Picasso and how he used pattern to create movement in his artworks. My students' work was outstanding! The portraits that they developed showed an understanding and a creative edge from Picasso's example. Only a few months left in our school year and even I can not wait to see what will come out of the minds of my creative geniuses! On to our next adventure............
